CT Scan

Computerized tomography (CT) scanning, which is used to get more detailed information than plain X-rays, is the combination of a series of X-ray images taken from different angles of the human body and processed into a computer to create cross-sectional images (slices) of bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues.

Frequently Asked Questıons

What can a CT scan detect?

Computerised tomography is scanning method that uses X-rays and a computer to create detailed images of the inside body. The areas performed vary according to the patient’s complaint. It detects many abnormal conditions such as tumors and bleeding in the organs in the relevant area.

What is the difference between MRI and CT scan?

CT Scan creates images with X-ray and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) creates images with magnetic waves. CT Scan is a scanning method that displays all organs in the scanned area, whereas MRI is more useful in differential diagnosis for a specific organ. However, both methods have predominance over each other in different organs. Both methods are complementary imaging methods to each other. CT Scan is more pre-eminent in bone injuries, lung problems while MRI in soft tissue, brain and spinal cord related diseases.

What is a CT scan and why is it used?

CT Scan creates images with X-ray and is used for diagnostic purposes if necessary. It can be done with or without contrast solution, according to the pre-diagnosis considered for the patient. It is used as a diagnostic purpose for bleeding, stone, tumor or many diseases that require urgent surgical intervention as well as for early diagnosis, which is vital.

How is a CT scan done?

During the CT scan screening, the patient lies on the table on his back or face down, depending on the type of screening to be performed. The patient stays alone in the room, however a system allows the radiology staff to see, hear and talk to the patient. Before screening the table on which the patient is lying moves and goes through the circular device. While screening the patient should stay still and hold their breath when intsructed. The image quality will deteriorate if you move or don’t follow instructions.
